It’s always great to hear stories about local businesses stepping up in a way that helps out the kids in their local communities and the folks over at Omni Brewing in Maple Grove are doing just that. In a joint effort between local full-service design and print shop, CHUX, and SPARK Music Studio, the trio will work to raise money for the Jimmy C. Jensen Youth in Music Scholarship. The scholarship, started by Myra Jensen, wife of Mid-America Music Hall of Famer, Jimmy, raises money for music lessons for at-risk-youth in the Northwest Metro.
Every Friday night this summer, from June 2nd until August 11th, Omni Brewing will be hosting live music out on their patio provided by a variety of local musicians (weather permitting of course). Some of the artists included in the summer series include Marah in the Mainsail, Saving Vinyl City, and Brady Perl along with a host of others. Throughout the series, Omni Brewing will also sell commemorative edition t-shirts by CHUX. The shirts will run $25, but every time you were yours to one of their shows, your first beer will be half-off with all of the proceeds from the t-shirts going directly into the scholarship fund.
According to Zack Ward, Omni Co-Founder/Head Brewer, “This was originally just a live music event, but when we saw an opportunity to partner with another small business to impact our community – in a way that can last for generations – we knew that’s what we needed to do.”
Students granted enrollment into the program receive weekly 30-minute music lessons at Spark Music Studio and students who don’t already own an instrument will be given one to take home and practice with. Nick Tucker, the founder of Spark Music Studio, explains, “Supporting the community is one thing that I want people to recognize Spark Music Studio for. So when Myra [Jensen] approached me about partnering with her and the Jimmy C. Jensen Youth in Music Scholarship it was an easy “Yes”.”
