For all of you reality TV junkies out there, you might just be interested to know that local fashion designer, Samantha Rei, will be a featured contestant on this year’s newest season of Project Runway. This marks the show’s 16th season and Rei will be the 7th designer from Minnesota to appear on the show. She joins the long list of contenders which have included the likes of Katherine Gerdes (season 3), Ra’mon Lawrence (season 6), Christopher Straub (season 6), Danielle Everine (season 9), Raul Osorio (season 10), and Tim Navarro (season 13).
For those unfamiliar with the show (as though that exists), the contests compete weekly with help from celebrity fashion mentor Tim Gunn in order to impress host Heidi Klum and judges Zac Posen and Nina Garcia.
Rei, a longtime resident of Minneapolis, attended Minneapolis Community & Technical College where she studied Textiles, Apparel, and Merchandising and Apparel Technologies. She’s also a graduate of the Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley, MN. In addition to her past education, Rei is no stranger to the Twin Cities fashion scene as she’s been featured in many local fashion events throughout the years and in 2015 she published her own book on steampunk and cosplay fashion design.
